WELCOME TO

EDGE GALLERIES

We would like to acknowledge the Dja Dja Wurrung people, traditional custodians of the land on which we stand, gather, create and dream and pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging along with all Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders.

EDGE galleries has brought vibrant, exciting, inspiring, left of centre, courageous and sometimes provocative artists to this gallery in Maldon during its existence from May of 2021. Our visitors and buyers have come to expect the unexpected and to leave with an experience and often with deep questions raised by the work of our artists.

This has been a challenging, wondrous, at times puzzling, awe inspiring time as we have had extraordinary conversations about the work and life and art and existence within this gallery space.

Artists have shared their rawness and their beauty without perimeters and this has been breathtaking and humbling. Loyal community members have visited multiple times and their support has been wide ranging and so valued. We have prided ourselves on the openness and inclusivity of our choice of artists and performers all of whom have bared their souls.

The vision for EDGE has always been to support artists with no exhibition fees and the lowest percentage on sales that we could carry. Ultimately the commercial realities found their way into the mix and rather than change our model and perhaps restrict or wither the support of artists and the work they might show, we have made the difficult decision to close EDGE galleries effective immediately.

WHILST WE MAY DO POP UP EXHIBITIONS BEGINNING IN JUNE OF 2024, our building is currently on the market (please see below if you are interested) so these will need to fit within potential time frames. Please check this website, our Instagram (@edgegalleries) or sign up for email announcements.

We are so grateful to those who came, who dived into the work, who purchased works (some multiple times) and those who whispered ongoing encouragement.

I hope that in some way we have made a difference.

This glorious building in Maldon in central Victoria just 15 minutes from Castlemaine and V/Line trains to Melbourne in 1.5 hours, from the 1860’s with commercial space on the main street and fully renovated living areas with high truss ceilings and four bedrooms and huge outdoor garden space is currently on the market, so if this is your dream to realise a gallery or creative commercial space with beautiful and historic ambience and fully ready living within the same building may we refer you to: www.cantwellproperty.com.au

We also show artists across a wide range of media.

We invite photographic and other media artists for consideration to present a series exhibition of images or individual images as part of a curated thematic exhibit by invitation. We are committed to bringing work of outstanding quality with a strong creative voice to this region with its close proximity to our cultural capital, Melbourne, and to regional hubs such as Bendigo, Ballarat and Castlemaine.

EDGE is committed to, and passionate about presenting work that is courageous, strong, creative, beautiful, provocative, socially conscious, explorative, thoughtful, engaging, enquiring, laterally thinking, funny, striking, emotional and surprising.

We host artist dialogues, and Q and A’s, where the creator and community can share thoughts, perceptions, ideas, creative processes, experiences, inspirations and stories as part of each ongoing exhibit.

As EDGE expanded we opened EDGE BELOW where exhibits include work across varied visual and performance arts practices including painting, sculpture, installation, movement practice, performance art and hybrid art forms.

EDGE BELOW (a fantastic and evocative cellar space) can house video or film installation work along with performance work, workshops and select exhibits that suit this inspiring, unusual space.
